What is ThePublicOffice?

ThePublicOffice is a wholly different leadership experience, created and specifically designed to generate collaboration between public servants, industry leaders and third sector partners in order to improve the design and delivery of citizen-centric public services.

Using a stimulating and unique environment, ThePublicOffice enables participants to view public services through the eyes of service users. From this starting point of empathy, ThePublicOffice showcases case studies of exemplary and innovative services, and through facilitated close-encounter workshops gets participants to work together to create new public service design principles. These memorable experiences are designed to build collective commitment to doing things differently and to stimulate action.

Some core beliefs underpin ThePublicOffice:

Collaboration is key

We believe that public servants, industry leaders and other stakeholders should work together formally across their organisational boundaries to design effective and cost-efficient provision that is driven fully by the needs of the end-users.

Engagement with users' needs should be the starting point.

Our starting point is knowledge of and empathy with people's real needs. This gives clearer direction and is far more motivating for public servants than budgetary squeezes or theoretically-driven reorganisations.

Citizen-focused services are better services

We argue that this is the way forward to greater effectiveness and dignity for service users, satisfaction for front line staff, efficiency for the taxpayer and restoration of trust in public services.

Fantastic morning – really invigorating. I’m fired up! ”
